Data Use Policy
Last Updated: 2026-05-04
This Data Use Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect data related to your learning activity on this site. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which covers personal information broadly. Here we focus on learning and performance data specifically.
1. What Learning Data We Collect
1.1 Practice and Quiz Data
- Question responses: Questions presented, answer choices selected, correctness, timestamps
- Session data: Practice sessions, quiz sessions, session configurations (question count, filters, timer settings), start and submission times
- Progress metrics: Accuracy by subspecialty, completion rates, time spent per question or session
1.2 Account-Linked Data
- Learner identifier: Pseudonymous or account-linked identifier associating activity with you
- Consent records: Versions of the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy you accepted, with timestamps
1.3 Aggregated and Anonymized Data
- Aggregate statistics: Question difficulty, pass rates, usage patterns—used for product improvement and content quality
- Anonymized analytics: Data stripped of identifiers, used for research and improving the Service and its educational content
1.4 Operational measurement
Aggregate or de-identified learning activity data may be used to understand feature usage or to operate the Service sustainably (for example, capacity planning). If we integrate advertising-supported surfaces, aggregated patterns may inform contextual placement choices in a manner that does not change items' educational correctness or SME review outcomes.
1.5 Optional weekly leaderboard
If you opt in under Profile, we use your question-answer timestamps to compute how many questions you answered in the same UTC calendar week (Monday–Sunday) used for all participants. We show that count to other opted-in learners together with a display label you optionally provide, or a short pseudonymous label if you do not. Your email is not shown on the leaderboard. Optional archived week summaries (top three counts and labels only) may be stored for past weeks.
2. Why We Collect This Data
We collect learning data to:
- Deliver the Service: Track progress, show performance metrics, enable quizzes and practice
- Personalize your experience: Recommend questions, filter by subspecialty, adapt to your history
- Improve content quality: Understand which questions are effective, identify errors, guide SME review
- Support product development: Improve features, fix bugs, and prioritize roadmap items
- Optional social comparison: When you opt in, show your weekly activity count on a leaderboard visible only to other opted-in learners
3. How We Use Your Learning Data
| Use | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Progress display | Show your accuracy, completion, and performance over time |
| Question filtering | Avoid repeating questions you've already answered (where applicable) |
| Quiz generation | Create quiz sessions tailored to your preferences and history |
| Analytics | Analyze question effectiveness, difficulty calibration, and usage patterns |
| SME review support | Help subject matter experts prioritize questions for review |
| Research | Anonymized data may support educational research (with appropriate safeguards) |
| Weekly leaderboard (opt-in) | Show your seven-day UTC question count and display label (or pseudonymous label) to other opted-in learners; email not shown |
4. Data Sharing
- Individual data: We do not share your individual learning data with third parties for their independent marketing or advertising lists. Limited technical or interaction data may flow to advertising or measurement vendors solely to deliver and measure ads in line with our Privacy Policy
- Aggregate data: We may use or share aggregate, anonymized data for research, publications, or product improvement
- Service providers: Hosting and infrastructure providers may process data on our behalf under strict contractual terms
5. Data Retention
- Active data: Retained until you request deletion or 24 months after your last activity
- Backups: May persist in backups for a limited period; deleted in accordance with backup retention policies
- Anonymized data: May be retained indefinitely for research and product improvement
6. Your Control
You have full control over your learning data:
- View: See your progress and performance through the Service interface
- Export: Download your data via the "Export my data" feature in account settings
- Delete: Request full account deletion to remove all associated learning data
- Weekly leaderboard: Opt in or out, and set an optional leaderboard display label, under Profile at any time
7. Data Security
We apply the same security measures described in our Privacy Policy: encryption in transit, access controls, and secure storage. Learning data is stored in controlled environments and accessed only by authorized personnel for legitimate purposes.
8. Updates
We may update this Data Use Policy periodically. The "Last Updated" date indicates the last revision. Continued use of the Service after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
